HERMÈS – FESTIVAL DES MÉTIERS

Hi people!

On Tuesday evening I had the chance to go the Festival des Métiers to check out the wonderful Hermès savoir-faire and learn more about this wonderful French brand!

Some of you might have already seen it, or part of it. I was so happy to see that all the people there were French, with a cute translator at their side wearing a “Carré Hermès” of course, and I could understand both languages :)

I was so curious and felt like a little girl the whole time (eventhough I wish Ihad more time, but only had one hour there), walking around the stands and listening carefully to the great presentation, and trying to understand the complexity of the whole production process.

The corner where I spent the most time, was where they showed the design and print of the “Carré de soie”.

The most complicated one takes around 2000 hours / 1 year of work just for the engraver to translate the painting/art work into a gravure, composed of several layers of black lines and dots representing the textures and colors of the orginial image.

Each layer will be transformed into a “frame”, used to print the colors on the silk. If you would see the work this represents! The patience and love for details they must have! It’s really an art, and makes you understand the price of a Carré.

For the printing process, you better watch the images, but it also takes a lot of time, since every color has to be put on the silk once at a time and stay into the lines of the drawing! Crazy!

All the technical details and knowledge they explained was really fascinating!

I also had a look at the handbags and the saddle production made of several leathers. Love it!

Take a look atthe pictures and if you have some questions, just ask :)

Kisses
